Making my world a friendlier place

I've decided to take a new approach to things, life things, friend-making things.  I recently returned from a 3 1/2 week solo trip in Europe where I rediscovered my ability to make friends.  Long gone are the days of insta-friends in the sand box and being someone's friend just 'cause they were in your class. Making new friends as an adult is hard.  And as it's been chronicled over and over again, Toronto is notoriously unfriendly.  It's not mean or cold, just not very typically friendly.  I'm on a mini-mission/experiment to change that.

A little sidewalk wisdom

I was out for a walk during my lunch break when I passed a man who felt compelled to stop me.  He pointed to his third eye and told me that I was a very lucky person.  He was reading my aura.

"Enemy" is a movie about friendship

At least those were the words that director, Denis Villeneuve used to describe his film before its world premier at TIFF on September 8th.  Although, I feel it had more to do with broken relationships and introspection.  My film watching companion is a fan of Jose Saragamo's work, so I thought she would be the perfect person to bring a long to watch this adaptation of his novel, The Double

An open letter to my homies

I fear that I may be growing up or something as I have found myself in a world of introspection since my 31st birthday.  Like many others of my generation we are starting to ask ourselves some tough questions about what we want to do with our lives: what makes us happy, what we want out of a career, family, and relationships. And all of it is equally as important as it will lead to a balanced and fulfilling life in the end if we get it right.  It's the worry that maybe I'm getting it wrong that has led to all of this solitary thinking.

Twerking: Self-Empowerment or Self-Objectification

Twerking ain't new.  I know this.  I've been shaking my rump and chippin' down de road long enough to now a little something about winding my waist and such.  But all of a sudden in the middle of a super pumped crowd at the Mad Decent Block Party, something changed for me when they invited some ladies to come up on stage for a twerk-off and some girls went on stage not fully understanding what that meant. Clearly they hadn't yet watched any of the instructional youtube videos and were just caught up in the hype of it all.

Better Late Than Never

It took me almost a year to get around to watching Academy Award winning, "Searching for Sugarman", but that's no where near as long as it took Sixto Rodriguez to be found.

Nanaimo bars come from Nanaimo, right? ... Maybe

Seriously, how could I resist this?
I walked into the office kitchen today to find a box of tiny bit-sized Nanaimo bars sitting on the table unguarded and ready for a tasting. As a delicately bit into one of these bars (read: barbarically stuffed it into my mouth) I was reminded of my trip to Nanaimo BC.
